The winner of this auction receives five nice Canadian coins, three 1967 pennies, and two 12-sided nickels, from 1962 and 1966.

The 1945 12-sided chrome-plated Victory nickel, KM#32 chrome-plated steel produced only during 1944 and 1945. List price $14.99.

Starting in 1942, the Canadian nickel was made dodecagonal to help distinguish the dark-color tombac coins from the cent. Tombac was removed from the nickel in 1944, but the coins remained 12-sided until 1963.The nickel's composition changed during World War II and the Korean War when nickel was redirected to the war effort. In 1942 and 1943, the coins were minted in tombac, a copper-zinc alloy. But in 1944 and 1945, and again from 1951 to 1954, the coins were made of steel which was plated twice, first with nickel and then chromium. The plating was applied before the blanks were struck, so the edges of these coins can be dull or even rusted, but mine is in BEAUTIFUL condition. The composition was returned to pure nickel after both wars.
