The listing, Pennsylvania Dutch Hex Charms - Tiered Auction has ended.
This is a tiered auction for four Pennsylvania Dutch Hex Charms. First a little history of Hex Charms and their origin. Often, a colonist family would have a designated symbol, choosing their own color, design and meaning, a combination of folk beliefs and superstition. Today Pennsylvania Dutch farmers still use and exhibit these Hex signs for good luck and to ward off evil with these symbols. They first began to be seen painted on barns in Pennsylvania in the early 1830's. Now a little bit about the meaning of the symbols painted on the charms:
* Distelfink – good luck and happiness
* Doves or Birds of Paradise – friendship, camaraderie, peace, purity and happiness
* Heart – true love, lasting love, and love for others
* Stars – protection against fires, good fortune, hope, love, fertility, energy and harmony
Colors
* Black – protection, also used to blend or bind elements together
* Blue – protection, peace, calmness and spirituality
* Green – growth, fertility, success in things and ideas that grow
* Red – emotions, passion, charisma, lust and also creativity
* White – purity, power of the moon, allows energy to flow freely
* Yellow - health in body and mind, love of man and the sun, connection to the God form
