Where ever did you find these? They don' look at all like coins; granted they would have suffered extreme degradation...due to their age. Interesting to say the least...

The story goes that Roman soldiers would be paid in coin but would bury them before going into battle. If they were killed in battle, the coins would sit in the ground for centuries. Now, with metal detectors, people in Europe are finding these little hordes of coins. Most seem to be from 300-400 AD but I can't see the features of this one very well so don't recognize it. There are methods to clean them so you can see details better.

It was pretty typical to have the Emperor's head on one side and some allegory on the other. Often the allegory is Victory or the emperor holding a captive, soldiers with standards or swords etc. They are very cool. I've seen pictures of people who found a vase that was filled with coins (thousands!) and buried. FYI eBay has uncleaned, unidentified roman coins for around $2 each. Cleaned, they can go for quite a bit more, and identified for even more.
