Description

The listing, 3 WWII O.P.A. Ration Tokens has ended.

During World War II, the federal government initiated a new agency called the "Office of Price Administration." Its objectives included rationing of scarce commodities, price fixing on certain items to avoid speculation, and preventing runaway inflation during the war. To make exact change, shopkeepers were issued small red and or blue tokens. They were made of a vulcanized fiber and were 16-mm in diameter. These basically were "small change" for stamps from ration books. These tokens were issued from 1942 to 1945 when rationing ended.

Listia has lost it's way from recycle aspect, to the $$ signs. Greed is everywhere.

We have a lot of these tokens from when Dad was in WW2 and Mom was home. We also have their ration books - they would pool and save and save their "gas" stamps to be able to go to the kids' high school basketball games on Friday nights. It's such an interesting story - wonder what people would do today if things were rationed like they were then?

Think I was in my teens, first time I encountered any of these. Never knew, assumed they came with a brand of jeans. Was a lot of years later before another opportunity to have a few to research.

I checked out Ebay again, they did revert final value fees back to 9%. Maybe there's hope for Listia curbing their greed and the members over charging postage on here for income profit. Our local cheapcycles have become business storefronts as well for some, not what those site was meant for either. Seems there's always cheats that have to screw things up for the rest of us.

that is so true listia was fun back first of the year but now with everyone wanting high dollar shipping to "pay" for the item plus shipping is getting old seems no one just wants to have fun and trade things anymore everything is money money money no real true collectors anymore
