Film of the classic novel about an orphan girl, raised in an orphanage with only a dear little friend for friendship, who grows up to be a governess. Gains a position as governess to a troubled father (Scott) of young girl, whom Jane loves dearly. Jane eventually falls in love with her employer but there is a sticky wicket -- she finds out on the verge of taking vows (how's that for dramatic impact?) he's married to a madwoman kept locked up in an upper chamber.
Jane leaves rather than compromise her principles. Trust me, true love wins out in the end and all is well.
