The listing, Antique Silver and Mother of Pearl Pill Box has ended.
Selling a vintage box. It seems it would have been used as a pill box, but I am not sure. It is silver, but I don't know if it is sterling, but it does not react to a magnet. The top has what looks to be a mother of pearl inlay. It is almost an inch and a half in diameter. On the bottom is does have markings, but even under a magnifying glass I couldn't make out what it says. Something along the lines of: "aerag"
Are you sure this isn't a snuff box. The metal on the inside leads me to that conclusion and I think this is pre-Victorian, too, but can't be sure unless you can find a makers' mark. Is there such a thing on this little box. This looks too masculine to have been a pill box, but it does look remarkably like a snuff box. Thanks for anything you might be able to add to the information about this box.
If you have a desktop scanner, you can place it bottom down on the scanner, cover it with dark paper and scan it. With the proper settings on the scanner, you can get remarkably sharp pictures of flat objects and magnify the image to see the writing.
