The listing, Gorgeous Golden Hubbard Squash has ended.
Got these seeds as a freebie at the Heirloom Festival, and initially went "oh pooh - a boring old hubbard variety"...but when we got as far as the exhibition hall - browsing for new kinds of really rare squash to try out -- I spotted Golden Hubbards on the display table -- WOW are they beautiful.
The seed packet says: "This heirloom squash -- also called "Genesee Red Hubbard" -- was introduced in 1898. The 12-lb red fruit are teardrop-shaped, brilliant red and lightly warted, making this the most beautiful of the hubbard types. The flesh is very thick, sweet and orange with a fine old-fashioned squash flavor. This is an excellent variety for fall decorations (plan ahead!) as well as eating."
Can't wait to see how they do - in the meantime the image of that pyramid of heirloom squashes dances in my head.
