Description

The listing, Yellow Passionflower (Passiflora Lutea) has ended.

This Miniature Yellow Passion Flower is a native of North America, and is in a critically endangered status in many states. North Carolina not being one of them. Flowering from early summer until frost they have hundreds of quarter sized blossoms at one time, every flower produces fruit that turns purple and contain 10-15 seeds when they are ripe.

Growing Passion Flowers from seed can be difficult if the seeds are dried and allowed to be dormant. I've found though much study and time, that the best way is to take them directly from the pod and plant them 5mm deep in soil or the last picture in the picture frame, this is my favorite way, pop open the pod and use a damp coffee filter inside of a plastic ziploc bag. They will germinate in 10-20 days. In the seed picture notice the seed at the top of the picture, this seed was already germinating inside the pod it has a little root which is quite common for these.
Yellow passionflower is good for butterfly gardens, as it is a host for gulf fritillaries, julia butterflies, and zebra longwings. It is also the only pollen source used by an unusual specialist bee, Anthemurgus passiflorae, Passion Flower Bee.

Two pods aprox 20+ seeds will be shipped fresh in an airtight mini ziploc baggie with the purple gel still around them to ensure germination. As always Free Shipping...I'm finally back after a long gardening season so watch for more seed and plant auctions, I have allot of hard to get wild flower plants and seeds to share this fall..
