Are the berries edible for humans? Is the plant cold hardy so it can be planted outside? I live in North East Arkansas.

you can eat them if you want they taste okay. the plant is very cold hardy!! I live in canada and it is a beautiful addition to any landscape and as a horticulturist i think there is not enough of them out there

sorry but i am a horticulturist and they are not poisonous a small percentage of people who eat them experience a mild upset stomach... I've eaten them and i have many diet restrictions.... My teacher who is a famous horticulturist loves them btw the only reason animals dont eat them is because they are not attracted to the colour as birds are attraced to dark purple almost black berries and bright red ones

beautyberry jelly is supposed to be quite tasty and foragers use the leaves as mosquito repellent....a very useful plant!
