It just plugs in and heats up, there's a turn dial.... and brand I would have to look. I know she paid good money for it. Her hair is super curly.

my daughter tried getting me to use it, I don't understand that too well. she used it on me twice and I never got the hang of it. 1st time she did it, I cried because I had not seen my hair straight since before cancer took it all... so, yes, it straightened well enough to bring me to tears

there is gold plates on it, if it's what they are... I really don't know much about this type of thing. I know it straightens hair real well.
