This vine is a zone 4-9 and can withstand -30 degrees! It's also a perennial. Please note that flowers and fruit grow on the vines older wood-so easy on the pruning.

You should be able to tell by the flowers physical make up that is produced before the fruit arrives. Here's a nice site that explains how to distinguish between male & female flowers.
