A member of the New England Patriots Hall of Fame, Coates was a 5-time Pro Bowler and a 2-time All Pro in 9 seasons with the Pats. His last second catch in game 16 of the 1996 season clinched a victory over the Giants en route to a Super Bowl appearance in January 1997, where the Partiots fell 35-21 to Brett Favre's Packers, despite Coates pulling down a TD pass in the game. After 9 seasons with the Patriots, Coates played one with the Baltimore Ravens, helping land the Ravens in their first ever Super Bowl (XXXV). Coates pulled down 3 passes in the game, a 34-7 drubbing of the New York Giants.
