Dates on Buffalo nickels are easily worn away when used in circulation.
This coin has a barely readable date.
I think it is a 1921 but cannot say for certain.
In 1938 it was replaced by the Jefferson nickel.
This year, 2013, marks the 100th anniversary of the buffalo nickel
