Get ready for Mardi Gras now with this pin made from Mardi Gras coins called doubloons. The pin is made of green, gold, and purple, the official colors of Mardi Gras.

Green = faith
Gold = power
Purple = justice

The doubloon has been one of Mardi Gras most treasured keepsakes since it was introduced by the founder, H. Alvin Sharp, in 1964. Sharp didn’t know if the idea would go over, so he left the date off of the coins. This is the only time in the parade history that the date has not been engraved on the doubloon, making them one of the most sought after and extremely valuable Mardi Gras souvenirs.

The green doubloon is dated 1979. The gold doubloon is dated 1990.
