It's the same game. This was just released a little later and has different artwork.

My daughter is a SIMS fanatic! She has Sims 2 with all of the add on packs- do these carry over into Sims 3 or will she have to buy all of the expansion packs separately ?

My niece is a fanatic, too which is why I now know more about Sims then I ever thought I would. Unfortunately not all the Sims games are interchangeable so the expansion packs for Sims2 won't work withSims3. The Sims 3 is a good game on it's on though.
