Slagle Election Pin, Badge

**1 3/4 inches wide**

**Printed with "State Slagle Senator"**

**Plastic-covered front**

**In 1973, a committee of Senators, with Republicans dominating, determined that the 1972 election in which Gene Slagle won the state senate seat over former Senator Robin Turner should be set aside and a new election be held in November 1974. The reason for the committee's decision had to do with the way the 1973 ballots were printed. On those ballets, Slagle had been listed first, ahead of incumbent Turner, a Republican.

**Ohio's then-governor, Governor Gilligan, vowed to join with Slagle and fight the committee's decision. Although there was no legal precedent for the Senate committee's actions, at the time the story ran in the June 13, 1973 "Toledo Blade", the full Senate was expected to vote on the issue next**
