The listing, 1786 Early American Colonial Commonwealth of Massachuetts Coin has ended.
Offered now for your consideration is this 1786 Early American Colonial Commonwealth of Massachusetts Coin. It is very likely a replica. We found it in a lot of U.S. coins and think it's a replica for several reasons but primarily because the "wear" on the coin is not indicative of an authentic coin of this alleged age. We could find very little information about colonial coins but found a great deal about Colonial America and some of the very first coins minted in the colonies, of which this is one. The common wealth of Massachusetts and the other colonies minted several coins; frequently very similar yet slightly different. This particular coin is a perfect example, as Massachusetts minted this coin with arrows in different claws of the eagle, sometimes both versions the same year.
A coin such as this one is a great way to get your children or grandchildren interested in history by encouraging them to research the history of the coin. They'd learn a great deal about Colonial America simply by researching just this one coin.
