Being that the sheath is made by Matell it is more likely to be from the Vietnam era. I do know that it is not what we used 15 - 20 years ago. I was in the Army then.

This is most undoubtedly an M5 bayonet, as it does not feature a muzzle-ring. (The ONLY U.S. issued bayonet that doesn't.) It will fit the M-1 Garand, and ONLY the M-1 Garand. So, if it's authentic, it is probably WWII or Korean War vintage. Vietnam is a possibility, but unlikely.

The scabbard appears to be an M8A1 scabbard, since it does have the bent-wire hook, whereas the M8 had only the belt loop.

I believe that when the description says that it has a "matel Army shith" it is a simple typographical error, intended to say, "Metal Army sheath" Which would be totally correct for an M5 bayonet. (Damn cell phone keyboards and autocorrect! LOL!)

It's a beautiful specimen of American military history, and a bargain now that the shipping is free.

Lol, you'd be surprised at who made our weapons back then during WWII anything with a factory contributed. Nice knife.
