Mexican Bird of Paradise Seeds

Up for bid are 6 seeds of the Mexican Bird of Paradise Bush (Caesalpinia gilliesii). This is not the bird of paradise flower that is popular as a cut flower. This is a beautiful shrub that is very exotic with its bright yellow flowers with red filaments and feathery mimosa type foliage.

Soil should be kept moist during establishment. Later prefers infrequent, deep waterings. Little pruning is required. Spring fertilization is recommended. Full sun produces best growth and flowering results. Very attractive to hummingbirds.

They are hardy to at least USDA zone 6b, and possibly colder. These plants would make excellent additions to your rare plant collection, or just make a unique statement in your yard.

Warning, like the popular oleander, all parts of this plant are poisonous so keep away from small children.

I'm not sure, but it has snowed here in Kingman twice this winter and the low so far has been 18 degrees, and it's still alive. It does drop most of the leaves in the winter, but it will be back in the spring. They are pretty hardy.
