The listing, Mokume Gane Mixed Metal Ring, sz 10 has ended.
This is a Mokume Gane ring. Mokume Gane is a technique of Japanese origin during which layers of alternating colors of precious metals are fused & patterned to create swirled images of color in a piece of metal. Mokume's rich history extends all the way back to the time of the Samurai. Mokume (meaning "wood eye") & Gane (meaning "metal") was first used to decorate a Samurai's sword.
I purchased this ring here on LISTIA for my husband, unfortunately, I didn't take into account his arthritic hands when bidding. This ring has NO markings, but I BELIEVE the base is sterling, as most Mokume Gane rings are made of precious metals. It is not magnetic. The band is quite thick, 1/8" (this is thickness of the band, not its width). It is about 1/4" wide. Because of its unique craftsmanship, it cannot be sized.
As stated previously, this is a size 10. It bears NO HALLMARKS, but I BELIEVE it has a silver core to which the other metals are bonded to. It weighs a hefty 9.5gr. I am hoping someone intrigued by the history of the Mokume Gane will win this ring, and cherish it, as it is a very unique piece of jewelry that deserves a proper home!
Thank you & good luck!
