Description

The listing, Datil a.k.a. Banana Yucca (Yucca Baccata) Seeds hardy perennial, zones 4-10 has ended.

Package of 15 seeds, hand-collected by me from healthy plants.

A showy plant with a beautiful stalk of flowers that some relish as a favorite wild food.
The fruits are also edible and said to taste somewhat like a sweet potato when baked.
It is found in rocky desert soils, grasslands and open woods throughout the southwestern United States.
Grows native here in the high elevation reaches of northern New Mexico, it's a fairly common plant on the floors of the pinyon-juniper woodlands that span much of my area, and up into the Ponderosa Pine forests. They seem to have an amazing tolerance to the brutal summers and where the winters are extremely long and snowy. Of the few that grow on my property, they need no upkeep and are doing just fine in a region where we get less than 20 inches of rain a year, while their beautiful spring blooms add a nice touch of color to any xeriscape.

RECYCLE
I try my best to reuse all my boxes, bags, and fillers. Please try to do the same. Fact: Each ton (2000 lbs) of recycled paper we produce can save 17 trees, 380 gallons of oil, three cubic yards of landfill space, 4000 kilowatts of energy, and 7000 gallons of water. This represents a 64% energy savings, a 58% water savings, and 60 pounds less of air pollution!

TERMS OF SALE:
Returns are accepted usually only if item is grossly misrepresented. Otherwise, all sales are final. Thank you.

is pennsylvania to far north for this plant?

My response has to be no, it's not too far north. I know there's a lot of forums and web pages regarding growing these beauties up north. They handle the same temps and snow here that y'all get there. I was going to include a grow guide, when I was charging shipping. Now the only way to keep shipping free, is to send just the seeds. But much of the info you seek is just a 'google' search away. Thanks for the great question.

They are absolutely beautiful when they flower in the spring! I also have seeds from the Soapweed Yucca, but I haven't germinated any of them myself to know if they are viable. Whereas, I have germinated some of the Banana Yucca seeds in a ziploc bag on my pantry shelf, so I know they're good. I just collected far more than one person can possibly use. When this arctic front gets done freezing the whole U.S.A., I plan to list some live spider plant sproutlings. They're developing a good root base right now. I'm also gathering my cholla cactus seeds to package up and offer, once I germinate a few for myself. Keep watching my auctions and thanks for your interest in this one!
