The listing, Sunny Yellow Fortnight Lily - beautiful & hardy! (15+) has ended.
Attractive, light yellow iris-like flowers with vivid maroon blotches seem to float on their stiff stalks over neat clumps of grass-like foliage.
At night, the flowers of Fortnight Lily glow in the dark with an exotic in tropical-garden look --despite the plant's tolerance of a hard frost.
It is one of the best all-purpose plants for beds and borders, where it functions a lot like an Iris, but with a much longer bloom period. (It's still blooming here in Northern California).
This plant is equally at home in Asian-garden schemes, where it is grown beside koi ponds or streambeds as a flowering reed. With its drought-resistance, it is commonly used in dryland gardens throughout the Southwest, where it takes inland heat in stride.
Grow as a low hedge, partition, or simply plant in big pots on a balcony or porch.
Blooms Spring through fall [Note: The name refers to its habit of producing a flush of blooms every 2 weeks. Each flower only lasts a day, but they are so lovely while they last -- and new ones will quickly appear.]
Useful in rock gardens, near swimming pools.
Fire resistant.
A reliable evergreen perennial that grows in clumps up to about 3ft tall and wide.
Wants full sun. Once established, needs only occasional watering.
USDA hardiness zones 8B - 11
