Description

The listing, Used Ovation Celebrity CC11 - Good Condition + Case, Tuner & Capo - Free US Shipping Only has ended.

This is a used Ovation Celebrity Guitar Model CC11. I think it was made in the late 1980's. It is in good condition although I don't know how to sight along the neck to tell if it is good or not. It seems to play well and kind of hums when in tune like you might hope from a good instrument.

Online these seem to sell for $150-200 nowadays. It's a great starter guitar. I'm getting rid of it because I have big fat fingers and have been faking it with this regular size guitar too long, I'm moving to a jumbo guitar because I'm hoping the neck will be wider, so the strings will buzz less and the notes be more distinct. A regular size person should do fine with this. I'm however 6' 1" and 270 lbs...They are considered easy for the average player to play and take care of and are pretty loud.

There are three 1/8" gashes at the top of the tuner keyboard on the end of the neck. They are not too noticeable. Otherwise there are just a few minor flaws, in keeping with Ovation's legendary plastic durability.

Comes with electronic tuner, capo, metal slide for slide guitar and a nice Kases softshell case in like new condition. Guitar will also come strung with light (or medium light??) strings. Free US Shipping.

Here is the description from Ovation site in its archived guitar section:

"Top:Sitka Spruce

Bracing:Ovation K-3

ScaleLength:25 1/4"

Fretboard:Rosewood, Black Binding

Fret Inlay:9 Pearloid Dots

Bridge: Walnut

Pickup: none

Nutwidth: 1 11/16"

Machines: Enclosed Chrome"

I thik the finish is "natural"

Yeah. As the Scripture says a wise man sees a dispute coming from a long way off and avoids it or something along those lines. I wasn't wise.

Nice guitar. All I will add is that typically a jumbo guitar references the acoustic body being bigger not sure on the neck. What you are probably looking for is a guitar with a fat neck.

It is about time someone started listing things of actual real value on here :) Thanks for spicing up Listia :)

Yeah I think listia envisioned instruments being sold in this section. There is some valuable stuff being sold in the jewelry and electronics sections, especially this past runup to Christmas. I'm happy to list things that people like, there's a good spirit here.

Very cool of you to list BTW. I'll be bidding and if I win, you won't even have to ship it, I live in G'burg and can pick it up!

Cool, but I will still have to ship it or we meet at a neutral place. My dad doesn't like people coming to our home for business things. :-|

I agree. I'd also like to see more instruments posted. IMHO, Listia's policy of capping a minimum bid at 100 points limits the listing of high value items.

Hmmm...That's interesting. I've made suggestions to them or couched the suggestions in terms of "Here' my vote for this feature..." thinking others or themselves would have already suggested or thought of it.

What makes you say that it's a "starter guitar" and does it have a built-in pick-up?
Jan 11th, 2011 at 8:06:21 AM PST by
Original
It's not a professional guitar. I wouldn't play gigs with it, although I suppose you could. I have played more expensive guitar in say the $500-$3000 range and there is a difference. The expensive guitars are even easier to play and more melodious. Also a starter means, you are not outlaying a lot of money for someone who might drop practicing and playing as sad or not most people do...

No sorry there is no pickup but I think you can add them.

By the way I went to FedEx. The shipping there is by far the cheapest. I will need a special guitar box but since I just bought a new guitar, I a;ready have one. The shipping will be $17-50 depending on how far away it needs to be shipped.

what would your "Get It Now" price be?
Jan 10th, 2011 at 8:57:09 PM PST by

It's too late for that because people have already bid. I was also interested in seeing how many credits an auction for an instrument like this would bring naturally. I haven't seen an instrument listed before. Also there didn't seem to be that option when setting up the auction, I think it was grayed out for some reason.
