Description

The listing, Five Tunisian Afghan Hooks and Something Weird has ended.

This auction is for those crocheters who love to make afghans with Tunisian crochet! There are five afghan hooks plus something I've never seen before.

First, the afghan hooks. These are long crochet hooks that hold more than one stitch at a time, so they have a stopper at the non-hook end just like a knitting needle. Here's a description of the hooks you will get:

14", size J (size 6.0, metric; size J/10, US; size 4, UK/Canada), brass color, metal
14", size 7.00 mm (between a size K/10.5 and L/11, US; size 2, UK/Canada), gray plastic; labeled "Aero Bernat England"
14", size 8 (size 5.0 metric; size H/8, US; size 6, UK/Canada), Susan Bates, pink metal
9", size H (size 5.0 metric; size H/8, US; size 6, UK/Canada), Boye, U.S.A.
9", size I (size 5.5 metric; size I/9, US; size 5, UK/Canada), Boye, U.S.A.

The last item confuses me. I've seen flexible crochet hooks that have a long end to them, and I've seen double-pointed circular knitting needles, but a flexible knitting needle with only one pointy end? I don't get it. All I can tell you is that the stopper at the end is labeled "Boye 10 1/2" and the needle is size 10 1/2 (US). The whole thing is about 18" long. Do you know what it is?

Fine print: please provide your verified Listia address within seven days of the end of the auction, or I'll relist it. I'd rather just send you the afghan hooks and the flexible thing, whatever it is.

Enjoy!

Update from my wonderful niece:

"That type of knitting needle is called a "flex jumper". I've never used them -- I use circulars instead. They're for large pieces knit flat. If you use straight needles for a very large piece, you wind up levering the weight of it up and down as you work, especially as you get to the end of the row, and it can be very hard on the wrists; with circulars or flex jumpers, the bulk of the piece is on the cable part, and you don't have to hoist it as much as you would on a rigid needle. Some people find circular needles confusing or otherwise dislike them; if you like circs, there's no need for flex jumpers. (As far as I know, the only thing you can do with just one flex jumper is use it as a stitch holder if you want the circular needle you were using for another project.)"
