does it need the dock for the zhu zhu pet to work or does it even move in the boat? Have never seen these used have only heard of them but am very interested in this stuff for my grandaughter

No it doesn't need the dock. My kids just placed their ZhuZhu pet in the boat and let it run on the floor. the pet moves the boat. They used it like 2 maybe 3 times. I had bought them a huge city and they lost interest in all of it fast. They are outside play kind of kiddos :)
