Description

The listing, *NEW* Willy Wonka & the Choc. Factory--I can't get to work! has ended.

Hear the story before you bid..
I got this one off ebay about 6 months ago, and I couldn't get it to work. I put the CD in, and nothing happened. I discussed it with the one I bought it from, and they knew of no troubles, and sent another. The 2nd one did the same. The only thing that I came to figure was with my lack of tech knowledge--perhaps an "HD DVD" is not playable in my my older player (to this day, I really don't have a clue!)

So this DVD has been opened, but it really is brand new, and it really did NOT play for me. If you have a few more in the smarts category, and would like to try to see if it works for you, bid away! Though it is being sold AS IS!

It will be shipped media rate, so it will not be getting there super-fast, either... I'd guess a week to 10 days.

BTW... I bought another from a different seller, and it works just find (doesn't say HD DVD, either).

If you are laughing at my ignorance in technology... I'm glad I could add a smile to your day!!! ^_^

Alright..well if it was a regular one that is what caused the problem, cause you can't play HD DvD in a regular player.

yeah.. blue ray.. the next riot. Once everyone has a blue ray, what do u think they will switch it to then, so the blue rays aren't good enough? I miss the days like back in the 3 stooges, or the Marx Bros., when you had scratchy film, and people loved it for what was in the show, rather than for how crisp they could make the image.

Im pretty sure you can only play this disk in a HDDVD Player or XBOX 360 HDDVD player add-on

You can not play HD-DVD in a Blu-Ray player. There was a format war over HD and HD-DVD lost. Sony posed Blu-ray and Toshiba posed HD-DVD. HD-DVD is a fixed architecture ( like DVDs only upgraded/ updated ) and Blu-ray is a Java based structure ( allowing for expandability at the cost of firmware updates ). Both are high def transfers but since Blu-ray has more expandability and Sony ( being a releasing company, owning the PS3, and pushing Blu-ray ) won the war when they sold Fox and a few others on the idea that with expandability they could continue to justify re-releasing their movies as the firmware/ format evolves [ treating video releases like software rather then static media ].

Format wars are not new. VHS beat out Beta-max in the earlier days of home entertainment. Hell even photography had competing formats. In fact the reason you have the Marx Brothers is that they jumped at the new technology ( film ) and so their act remain while equally talented performers are left to history books and fading memories.

It's not a scam though. It's very rare technology ever has a clear winner right out of the gate... and everything was once technology. Ignorance is easily and frequently exploited and even more frequently leads to foolish assumptions but don't blame the format.

Luckily Warner and a number of companies which are now promoting blu-ray have an upgrade program for people to turn in their HD-DVDs with an a small fee and they will give you the film on blu-ray ( to avoid people feeling cheated because they picked the wrong horse in the format war).

So whoever wins... keep in mind that even if you don't have HD-DVD there are trade-in programs ( amazon still does buy backs and a few companies offer programs so you can trade it in towards blu-rays. )

Good luck to all bidders.
