Description

The listing, Privit Hedge seed has ended.

Fresh Common Privit (Ligustrum vulgare) seeds 2010 crop. These little seeds are about the size of BB's and as a child, they were used in liew of BB's since I ran out rather quickly.

I'm offering about a tablespoon full of these seeds so there are enough seedlings to grow a hedge around a normal sized yard. Zone 7-10

These seeds need to be planted in the late fall or early winter as long as the soil can be worked. They will sprout and grow as the soil is warmed in the spring. These seeds need the longer period of chilling in the ground to break out.

Simply cultivate a small area about 3' by 3', incorporating a lot of peatmoss and compost. Plant the little seeds 1/4" deep about 3 inches apart in every direction. Press the soil down firmly and wait for nature to take it's course.

$2 Shipping anywhere in the United States (Includes Delivery Confirmation). Sorry, will NOT ship to APO/FPO or non United States addresses.

How long before these become a 3' hedge?

First year, the seedlings will reach about 18" if left unpruned. They should be pruned back to about 4" in July or August to force side shoots and a thicker bush. The individual seedling should reach 18" to 24" by first frost when all growth stops. These are evergreen so the leaves will remain throughout the winter.

Second year, allow to grow thru early June then prune again to promote bushiness. If watered well through the summer and has good drainage, the shrub will reach 36" and beyond. Don't be afraid to prune the branches back to promote thick growth.
