Jon Aldrich (Selleck), Chicago stock trader, husband and father who's been enjoying his life to the fullest- until now. Just when he flies to Florida to see his hospitalized mom (Anne Jackson), he becomes the target of an FBI sting. But that's nothing compared to his unfortunate fate: life with Dad (Don Ameche).

When his father takes the car out for a spin, he crashes through his neighbors' homes. When he cooks lunch, he burns down his house. Reluctantly, Jon invites his folks to move in with him in Chicago where it's only a few wild days before he loses his job, his home, his car and his wife.
