The listing, Unknown Vintage Case ~Please take a look, note sure what this is!~ has ended.

Hello everyone, I have a bunch of new auctions for you! So lets get started shall we?

Description:
This is a strange little case that I found in a lot of change purses at a local thrift store. At first, I thought it was a cigarette case. That being impossible since it is so short *It's about 3-4 inches long* I popped it open to find these strange little hooks o.o I have absolutely no idea what this is and the night I found it, my sister and I did hours of searching online...to come up empty handed! If you know what this is please comment below! I am dying to know what this is !

This would make a lovely gift for Christmas, it is just right around the corner you know <3 I ship all of my auctions in Bubble Wrap Mailers through USPS. My shipping is ALWAYS FREE!!!! :D

~ Please note that I only ship to
LISTIA VERIFIED ADDRESSES.
if you are not verified please do not try and send me your address through a message. It puts me at risk as a seller to lose my points if I send :( . Thank you for understanding <3

~I send all of my items in cute gift bags, to make them easier to give away as presents or to just keep your new item safe and sound <3

Thanks for taking a peek <3 Please check out my other auctions! :D

Yes it is a key case from the 60's or so. You could pull out one and close the case and use that key such as your car key in the ignition. Then exchange it for the door key close the case doing all this with light on in your car if dark so you are not fumbling at the door with your keys. In those days and earlier we had something for everything plus purses were bigger to carry so much. Then purses got smaller in the 70's so this disappeared. But grandmothers kept what worked for them for ever, I know I would and my grandmother would.

I could be very wrong but I think each hook might be intended to hold a key. (?)

I did some googling after the comments came in concerning what it was, I have checked ebay, etsy and just plain google images and haven't seen anything with this pattern. Seems they made these things out of a lot of different materials too ^_^ Thanks for the info!

You all are so young! Definitely is a key holder but later than the 20's I would say. since I was born in 1948. Everyone had one before the key rings we now have became popular. I remember them from the 50's. Some had snaps and were open on the bottom. Will be fanning you to see what is next!

My father was 80 yo and passed away recently. He had a man's leather version of this key holder and continued to use it for his keys until his death. Used to be everybody used these when I was very young. I am 53 yo.

I am so sorry to hear about your father :( My deepest condolences. It's good to know these little wallets were very cherished, makes me think about where mine came from, and whose story it told.

I found one recently in an old lot of stuff and have been using it to store all the spare keys my family has in one place. If we ever lose a house key, or need an extra car key to leave at the the shop when we get a car fixed, we know exactly where to find it. It's so much easier than digging through a drawer and each key slips right off. They're still so useful!

That sounds like a great idea actually! I might get one for my boyfriend for Christmas, he is ALWAYS losing his keys :p Just makes me worry that he would lose the wallet too XD

My Grandmother had one, it is a skeleton key box, the top of the key slides securely on the hook. That was back when I was 4 so , it's at least 40 years old or older.

My grandmother had a few. She said learly 50's and said it was common for people to have these cause, "Who wants to poke themselves with a pocket full of keys" lol but for ladies it was definitely an accessory just like a scarf or gloves or jewelry, and could be hit fashion with gold and polished engraved metal case
just like cigarette cases.
Nov 28th, 2013 at 7:41:36 AM PST by
Original
Thank you so much for the info, it's good to know about the history of these little cases. It makes sense, I wouldn't want to poke myself with keys either ahaha. Tell her I said thank you for all of the info, I really appreciate it :D
