Black Diamond / Yellow Belly are one of my favourites. I also like the classic Sugar Baby and Honey Dew for coctails. Yum.

Easy breezy to grow in a box. Choose a plastic square box (cube). You can usually find square planters at any garden centre. A square watermelon is actually cube-shaped. It grows to look like a cube because the watermelon is grown in a box. In Japan, the square melon is grown in a glass box so that its progress can be easily viewed. Take an immature (newly sprouted) watermelon. Handle the fruit and vines very carefully. Vine plants hate to be moved. Place the box with at least one removable side around the watermelon. Naturally most boxes are square but you can tailor the shape to suit your wishes if need be. Fill in with soil and gently pat the plant into position. Add compost and mulch as required. Water the watermelon as usual. Make sure it is getting adequate light. The watering process will probably damage the box, so be prepared to replace it as the watermelon grows. Perhaps have some in reserve and ready to go. Harvest. When the shape is how you want it and the fruit is ripe, it is time for harvesting. Take it along to a special occasion and wow everyone with your square watermelon! *Do not place the container over the watermelon, place the watermelon into the container. Do not conver the container. Your watermelon must be able to "breathe." Remember not to move he watermelon too much.

Watermelon Sorbet
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup corn syrup
4 tablespoons lemon juice
3 tablespoons grenadine
3 fresh mint leaves
3-pound seeded watermelon

Directions: In a small saucepan, bring sugar, syrup, lemon juice, grenadine and mint leaves to a boil dissolving the sugar granules. Let cool slightly. Cut the rind off the watermelon and cut into chunks. Puree half of the chopped watermelon in a blender. Strain through a fine mesh strainer into a large glass bowl. Repeat with remaining watermelon. Add slightly cooled syrup mixture and mix well to incorporate. Place sorbet into a 2-quart plastic container and freeze for 3 to 4 hours
