Description

The listing, *DOZENS* of Dutchman's Pipevine Seeds has ended.

Shady porches are magical places, and a great vine for shade is Dutchman’s pipe (Aristolochia macrophylla). This old-fashioned favorite, native to eastern North American woods, is cultivated by porch dwellers for its rapid growth and dense foliage. Odd little flowers, shaped like Dutch pipes, give the plant its common name, but they’re mostly hidden by the heart-shaped, hostalike leaves that provide cool, deep shade for rocking chairs. The leaves have another purpose, too: They provide food for the caterpillars of the pipevine swallowtail butterfly. If you plant this vine now, it’ll be covering a good part of your porch when next summer’s heat hits.

Common name: Dutchman’s pipe
Botanical name: Aristolochia macrophylla
Plant type: Deciduous perennial vine
Zones: 4 to 8
Height: 15 to 30 feet
Planting now won't be a good idea in cold climates. Plant in the early spring after all danger of frost has past OR plant in a container and keep inside during winter. I live in warm sunny Florida and enjoy this beautiful vine year round.
All Listia rules apply. I'll mail the day after the auction ends.

I live in tropical zone 9a curious if I would need to bring it indoors during summer months.

I don't believe you would need to worry about it being damaged by the cold. Where I live, Gulf Coast, Florida, I've NEVER covered or protected it during the winter. My 'Mother' vine is about 12 years old. It doesn't really get cold enough here to hurt it. I DO, however, cover my Stag Horn Ferns.

Not too cold. If you wanted, you could plant it in a pot and bring it inside. I'd advise you to 'Google' it for more growing info.

In one seed pod there are probably 2-3 dozen seeds. I'll send the contents of one seed pod.
