This is not an x-wing. This is one of Vader's tie fighters. The x-wings are what the rebels fly.

do you know how many pieces are missing? can it be built as shown in picture? my 8 year old grandson loves legos and has a bunch but would love this too. is it in the box?

I don't know how many pieces are missing, what you see in the picture are all
the legos that you get. you can get the booklet/or way to put it together on line.
