Mansoa alliacea

15 SEEDS!!

South America's Mansoa alliacea or false garlic, is the new super vine everyone is raving about...BUT no one can find!

Considered "Good Luck" this beauty doesn't belong to the garlic family, yet when its leaves are disturbed it produces a garlic like scent which acts as a natural mosquito repellent.

But the real buzz about this striking climber is its display of "three" fast growing colored blooms on the same plant! Lavender, pale lavender and white tubular flowers overflow this hardy vine most of the the year. This plant will bloom in mild cold, but not freezing temperatures. Great for large containers. Flowers appear on new growth so careful with the pruning!

ZONES 8+ as perennial. Annual in all other zones.

Seeds packaged in breathable glassine bag. Color photo & instructions included. FREE SHIPPING

I have seen this vine many times but I have never seen it seed. I would love to win some seeds. The colors are beautiful on this vine.

It would look good on our porch. Do they need full sun

If you have a nice 'bright' area, pt sun will be okeedokie :) But remember, the pot must be rather large to accommodate its root system. Therefore, may I suggest you get one of those inexpensive roller plates, so it's movable if not happy with its location.

I'm excited to grow this one myself come Spring. I love a multi-tasking plant. Its beautiful, repels bloodsuckers (for those pesky garden Vampires) and the leaves, though not of the garlic family, are used as a garlic substatute in cooking.

I have one of these. They are neat! Unfortunately mine hasn't bloomed in a long time.

Oh no. Did it suffer a frost at some point?
Dec 4th, 2013 at 6:46:49 PM PST by
Original
Not a hard frost. I'm in zone 9. We do get an occasional light frost.

Zone 9 is perfect for this plant so a light freeze shouldn't be the problem. I would suggest a nice layer of bark about 6" out from its base to protect its roots. Also this spring give it a nice shot of good compost/fert and see if that revives her flowers. Also, it could simply be a matter of an old vine :( who is wearing out.

Could be age. We've had it for around 10 years. We'll see! Thanks!
