The listing, WHAT ARE THESE??? Estate Sale Find has ended.
I found these 4 matching little dishes at an estate sale and no one knows their origination. I'm guessing maybe snuff jars? Each of them have a different number stamped on one side, and a series of dots that resemble braille. Each are in excellent condition with no cracks or chips. Please see all pictures for detail and measurements.

they are salt servers made between 1935 and 1940. I have this exact same set, there are no lids, or spoons that came with them assuming that when you got salt from them or pepper or whatever spice was in them you would use the tip of your table spoon before eating. very nice. The only reason I know is because I got my set of 4 at an estate sale and got them appraised cause I had no idea what they were lol. good luck!
Please allow me to clear the air. Yes, these are in fact salts. they were made by the Wear Galssworks of Sunderland, England between 1880 and 1885. this design is called " colosseum"and they are lovely. I will not comment on their value here but the winner of this auction will be very pleased with them. I hope you do very well with this auction and thank you for sharing them!
In the old days, glass with major dimples or dots held poison & the dots were to warn blind persons of the danger, before braile was invented... hope this helps???
They look like <<"ink welles">>they were for holding the ink when you dipped you pen into it. some were used as liners in ink wells to line pretty brass, copper, etc. ink wells. i have a brass one thats missing its ink well.~~~~~~~can you measure around one of these & tell me in inches the size? ty f&w
I went through all comments, I don't think it matters wat they were made for, they could be used for so many different things. I like the idea of using them for Ice Cream. :) F&W
Yes they most definitely look to be salt cellars, i dont think i spelled that correctly.lol but they come in all shapes ,sizes,2,4,6,8 to a set. Some with tops and spoons some without, they range in price from $3 to $35 ,so far havent seen them go for more ,not at this time. But very nice..... Yours.are in great shape...... Very nice fanning and watching....
yes mine have 80 27 stamped on the side and also dots one set of 3 followed by three sets of 2. they are nice little dishes esp for the little ones for small servings.
They look like salt sellers to me. how big are they? Salts could have numbers and braille dots. They don't have to be a matching set the way we think of matching.
Google Costco creme brûlée and look up images. By the way, I mean to post this too, I love them! They are so useful I use mine when I pre measure out my ingredients. They are handy little things. Great listing!
