Are these perennials or annuals? Do they grow in full sun or would they grow in the shade?
Dec 6th, 2013 at 3:50:44 AM PST by
Original
They're perennials and extreme shade lovers. I did forget to mention in my other postings that these seeds need to be started and maintained under Florescent grow lights and a plastic grow tent (for humidity). After the first two leaves appear the tent can go but the lights need to remain until well established.

Type of soil, sun, water, could be plant in pots? Any other relevant info, I'm more into fruits & vegetables, but this is beautiful. As you can see I'm a novice on flowers!!!
Dec 6th, 2013 at 6:21:04 AM PST by
Original
Soil: well draining/loamy peat with vermiculite/or sand + rich compost. Sun: must have 80% shade as they are used to growing under a rain forest canopy. Water: moist but never wet and soggy...they don't like wet feet! Pots: highly recommended! Transfer seedlings to small pot and then move up to one no bigger than 12" across.
I recommend some Tropical knowledge and lots of patience :) This is not a novice flower, but then, it's free and who knows...it may grow beautifully for you!

very pretty is it easy to grow

About as easy as that adorable baby in your arms :) They're slow and fussy about their needs...which is a rain forest atmosphere. But once established, they require less attention.

gorgeous, but my seeds never do well, guess I don't have a green thumb. I raise bromeliads and they do fantastic, though.

That's ok...few of us can grow everything and seeds are a bit more difficult, but have their advantages in price and boasting privileges :) I just saw a large Turquoise Bromeliad that blew my mind and is now on my most wanted list! Fabulous & regal plants!!

These are awesome!!!I would love to be able to grow these.Do you know what plants they are related to?Such as they kinda favor a hosta.I do well with tropical plants but don't know anything about starting them from seeds.Watching, and fanned and might just bid if you can help me figured out how to grow them.lol
Dec 7th, 2013 at 3:58:34 PM PST by

Actually, they're from the Yam family! You have half the battle won if you can maintain established tropicals but there is a bit of pampering & TLC involved with starting rare ones from seed...sterilized & heated soil, humidity tenting and Florescent lights until ready to be transplanted. But obviously well worth the effort for such a beauty!!

Tacca's will give you both seeds & bulbs :) I can get the bulbs for the Black Bat, but haven't come across any in the Whites.

Actually...that's an excellent example! The requirements & TLC are about the same.
