If all your going by is that a magnet doesn't stick to them I have to tell you, that's no way to identify gold. Magnets don't stick to copper or several other metals like gold plated silver.You need to be able to say what they are in Listia rules and stand behind them.If you don;t have a test kit, you can put some face powder on yer forearm on the lightest skin. Like the powder foundation. I hear it works with liquid foundation too, but I've only tried the power kind. Rub the chain kind of vigorously in one spot a couple inches long. If it is gold, it will show up a grey mark and if it's high grade gold it will turn almost black. If it's plate it will leave no mark at all. You can really test silver this way. I've tested everything in my house now. I acid tested first to make sure I was getting a good reading, and then makeup and I was astounded at the results. Silver will leave a very dark mark. If it's Tibetan silver it will leave a lighter mark and that's how you can tell the difference in white copper and S80. They do have large amounts of silver in them...but I have a few pieces that were stamped 925 from China that are silver plate and leave no mark. Have fun wrestling with your jewelry. Amazing technique to know. You can powder up your arm and go to yard sales and check unmarked jewelry. Cool huh? So, do that and tell us your results. Thanks.
