The listing, Used U.S. Stamp #1112 4¢ Atlantic Cable Centennial-Possible Free Shipping has ended.
The Department issued this 4-cent stamp to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the completion of the Atlantic Cable through the New York, New York, post office on August 15, 1958.
Designed by George Giusti, the stamp features a globe with a heavy horizontal line, symbolizing the linking of the eastern and western hemispheres by the cable, with the head of Neptune and part of his trident to the left and the head of a mermaid to the right. The inscription "Atlantic Cable Centenary 1858 — 1958" appears across the top of the design and "United States Postage" is centered at the bottom, both in dark Gothic. In the lower right corner is the value "4c."
