The listing, Used U.S. Stamp #1123 4¢ Fort Duquesne-Possible Free Shipping has ended.
The 4-cent Fort Duquesne bicentennial commemorative stamp was issued through the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, post office on November 25, 1958. The stamp's central design was reproduced from a composite drawing, utilizing only certain figures, based on an etching by T.B. Smith and a painting depicting the fort's British occupation.
General Forbes is shown in the foreground on a stretcher. In addition to Colonel Washington, who is on horseback in the center, Colonel Henry Bouquet, who was second in command to the ailing Forbes, and other figures were selected to represent the Virginia militia and provincial army. In the background to the left, a group is raising the British flag, while a segment of the stockade is shown burning. Around the sides and across the top of the stamp, in white Gothic lettering is the test "1758 Fort Duquesne 1958," and across the bottom is "US Postage 4c."
