they do still sell the tapes, they are called digital8, I have the higher end hi8 version of this handycam. they are not the "VHS" mini tapes though that I have seen in local drugstores nearby my home, but they are harder to come by. My CCD-TRV318 is 10 years old, made in 2003.

Yes, I checked on Amazon, they still sell them. About $20 for a 4 pack.
