I thought counter stamped coins were usually older than these and contained slogans for advertising merchants and their wares, or political slogans. I've never seen any with just initials. What purpose would anyone have for simply stamping initials on a coin? Do you have any reference sources you could recommend to me? We've been avid and experienced numismatic collectors for 35 years and really never paid any attention to counter-stamped coins. Since all our collections are now nearly complete with high grade and NGC coins, we're now interested in adding a different aspect of coins to our collections. The VAST majority of dealers and collectors stray entirely away from counter-stamped coins and it's rare to even find them at huge coin shows as most numismatic enthusiasts generally view counter-stamped coins as dis-respectful defacing rather than considering them as another aspect of the times, trials and history of our great nation. I believe this widely held view is all about to change in numismatics and we'd like to be on the ground floor and ahead of the game when collectors start snatching up these counter-stamped coins! Thanks for any information you can provide...I've looked for printed materials regarding these coins but can't fine any....Thanks in advance!
