Questions & Comments
very neat find! Why are you getting rid of them? and what is imprinted on the coins? thanks.
They are indeed pretty awesome. Figured somebody out there in Listia world would want to have them for their own. The imprint on one says "OPA Blue Point" around the outer edge and has the number "1" in the center with a "T" on one side of it and an "X" on the other side of the 1. On the other "OPA Red Point" on imprinted along the outside, and in the center it has a "1" with the letter "V" on one side of the 1 and the letter "C" on the other side. Thanks for stopping by!
These are actually very nice and in great shape by the looks of them. OPA stands for Office of Price Administration and they began issiuing OPA Blue and Red points in 1942 when the began rationing canned goods, meats, sugar, coffee, tires, gas, and more. No one really knows what the letters mean on the tokens but some of them are actually rare. There are 30 different red points and 24 blue points. The rarest is the Red 1 point with the letters M 1 V on it and sells for about $230. Followed by the Red M 1 M then the Blue W 1 W then Blue W 1 C.
