Two vintage japanese style trivets. I say this because I am 33 and they were part of my grandmother's estate purchased long before I was born. People debate on what is antique so I'll just call these vintage.

What are trivets?

They are holders for hot pots and pans when you put them on the dinner table. Most have a cork bottom as you can see here that also prevents slipping. These however I think most people would use for decoration.

What are these made of?

I believe enamel on top and cork on the bottom, but not sure what is coating the enamel or what it is painted on.

This is lacquer ware hand painted or screen painted With more lacquer on top
Of painting. The presence of cork on the bottom however indicates these are not antiques or vintage pieces made for import and sale not all that long ago! At most they are 15 yrs old, but they are still quite lovely. They just aren't antique or vintage. Sorry, but I have old ones made quite differently 40 yrs ago!

I'm not 100% sure of that. My grandmother had these before I was born and I am 33 years old. She passed when I was young and I was given them in a treasure box. Anyhow, you could be right but I'd like more information about these and where they are from. In any case, they are free and on Listia. I hope someone enjoys them. For decorative purposes only. Also in this day and age people consider vintage to be a whole lot of different things.
