I almost always just figure out as high as I want to go based on how bad I want the item and what I feel like it is worth to me. I won a fair few things that way and it is better then checking back a million times and stressing about it. (: It is some times hard to see something go for just a few points more then my highest bid but it has still worked out pretty well for me. (:
