Summary:
Summer of My German Soldier is set during WWII. The US government has decided to open a prison camp to house Nazi soldiers outside the small town of Jenkinsville, Arkansas. The main character in this novel is named Patty. Her family owns a local store in Jenkinsville. One day the Nazi prisoners came to the store to buy hats for outdoor work. Patty's attention was drawn to one particular Nazi prisoner named Anton who was translating for the others. He left the store, and Patty thought she would never see him again. Anton escaped from the prison camp, and intended to commit suicide by throwing himself in front of a train. But before he did, Patty saw him and prevented him from killing himself. Can Patty hide him without her strict father knowing?
