Yes it play's and save's. I'm not even sure that my daughter ever used it. They took it out of the case because they carried them all with them.

I'm going to be honest, I didn't even know they had different versions of dogs. I really don't know what kind of dogs they are and I already got rid of the kids old game boys so I don't know how else to check.
