Description

The listing, Used Class Ring has ended.

This is a size 9 mens class ring - It is already personalized with the name "Cecil" on one side and some sports symbols along with the year "1994." It is engraved inside with the name "Cecil R. Martin." The only thing of worth on this ring is the gemstone, which is a starburst patterned Alexandrite. It is a beautiful stone. This ring cannot be resized due to what the ring is made of; so it would only be valuable to someone who wanted the stone, honestly.

If you have the ring in your possession, take it outside in sunlight and see if it turns a blue shade or green. This will say if it's alexandrite (real or synthetic would be another thing) but it wouldn't be amethyst then.

Please see my note below regarding this - it is synthetic alexandrite. The coloring you see in the ring above is in artificial light.

Just so you all know, my ex-husband gave me this class ring when we were married. I contacted him last year to ask if he wanted it back and he said no. I am not selling it but giving it away for credits. I blocked Freddy2000 for trying to make trouble. I apologize if this turned anyone away from the auction.

Is it possible to take the stone out? And are you sure it isn't amethyst?

Hmm, that's a good question. No, I'm not sure it's not amethyst. It is the June birthstone which is typically alexandrite. There is nothing on the ring that states what type of stone it is, but there are only three official birthstones for June and the others are moonstone and pearl, both of which I'm pretty sure this isn't. Alexandrite changes colors according to what light it is under - artificial or real light. I would think you could take the stone out but I'm not an expert on class rings so I'm the wrong person to ask. I know it can't be resized because it is made from Selenium and that is not re-castable. That is truly all I know. Wish I had more answers.

Here is what I found online:
Synthetic corundums spiked with trace elements that yield an alexandrite-like color change are sold as alexandrite on the gemstone market. These stones have a red-violet, near-amethyst color in incandescent light and a blue-violet color in daylight. They are far cheaper than natural alexandrites, which are some of the rarest and most expensive of gemstones.

So, this is a synthetic alexandrite. It turns a purple color in artificial light and more violet in natural light. I hope that helps. :))
