20 seeds from the Norway Maple in my yard. Gathered from the tree the last week of November. Shipping not allowed to New Hampshire and Massachusetts.
Sap can be boiled down to syrup; though not of the quality of sugar maple syrup.The leaves are packed around apples, rootcrops etc to help preserve them. A rose coloured dye is obtained from the bark.
Suitable for: light (sandy), medium (loamy) and heavy (clay) soils, prefers well-drained soil and can grow in heavy clay soil. Suitable pH: acid, neutral and basic (alkaline) soils and can grow in very alkaline soils.
It can grow in semi-shade (light woodland) or no shade. It prefers moist soil. The plant can tolerates strong winds but not maritime exposure.
It can tolerate atmospheric pollution.
Norway Maple is fast growing, quickly reaching 70ft by 50ft, creating shade and a windbreak if planted in group.
Seeds require cold stratification.
