Description

The listing, 50+ Paulownia Tree Seeds.(Royal Empress) has ended.

Fast growing and hundreds of full, fragrant blooms! Royal Empress Tree will grow to its full, mature size in less than 5 years. This gives you instant shade and instant flowers from this hardy tree. The lavender flowers emerge in spring providing you with a sweet fragrance for months on end.

Royal Empress is an entertaining tree year-round. In the winter its branches are covered with furry, pea sized buds, just waiting to burst into huge flowers. At the first sign of spring, the tree explodes with purple blooms.

When summer comes, the tree forms a dense canopy that gives dense shade in just a few years. The leaves are huge, measuring about a foot wide. They’re almost tropical looking. When they drop in the fall, it’s an easy clean up... not like oaks that scatter tens of thousands of tiny leaves.

Absolutely gorgeous! I've seen that Conneticut has banned the tree. Do you know if there are regulations against it in Florida?

Ok I'll have a look, I don't think there should be a problem, I've only ever seen that one state so far as having banned the tree, but I'll certainly double check. Thanks for the help! (Gorgeous trees btw!)

from Wikipedia: Paulownia is extremely fast growing; some species of plantation Paulownia can be harvested for saw timber in as little as five years. Once the trees are harvested, they regenerate from their existing root systems, earning them the name of the "Phoenix tree." Paulownia has the ability to reclaim ecologically stressed and degenerate patches of land relatively quickly. Its root systems run deep and penetrate compacted and contaminated soils which have resulted from industrialized development. Paulownia is a phyto-remediator, increasing the organic content of degraded soils, processing and filtering contaminants through the uptake of its vascular system, and emitting oxygen into the atmosphere.
Recently, Paulownia has received a great deal of interest for its environmental properties and has been put forward as a potential solution to the global deforestation problem which lies at the heart of the climate change debate. It is being used as a reforestation tree in several countries, including Australia, Germany, China, the USA and Panama. Reforestation projects using the species are being run by organizations such as EcoTech Timber Inc, ECO2 Forests Inc, Robinia Invest, Eco Sustainable Systems, Silva Tree and Kiri Park Projects due to Paulownia's fast growth and additional environmental benefits.

i have read that they harvest for the wood because its very light and very strong.Logs can sell for hundreds of dollars. and with the fast growning nature of this tree it takes less time to harvest

ahh here this maybe why some states have banned it: Seedlings
A major problem with the Paulownia is the sheer amount of seeds it produces--each seedpod can contain a few thousand seeds, with each having the potential to sprout once fallen. The tree is known for its strong sprouting capacity, so any of the tree's seedlings that are blown over the garden by the wind need to be kept in check to stop more of the trees appearing all over the place. Each seedling needs to be cut or pulled in order to ensure that the roots do not get a chance to grow in size; it's best to catch any seedlings early on, since the tree's rapid growth means that the seedlings will soon become a problem.

I wonder how well it would Bonsai?

i have too heard about this. a big part of it is the conditions and climite around the area the seeds are spread. my friends tree has never really had a problem with seedlings in his yard. he thought it was hard to start from seed. i think it would make a for a good bonsai, i think i might make me one now that you mention it.
