This coin like numbered 2 sales tax token was used as change during consumer transactions in Colorado. (Similar tokens were used in Oklahoma, Utah and other states.)
Colorado had a 2 percent sales tax from 1935 until 1945. These 2 mill tokens were used when tax was less than a penny, for example a sale or portion of a sale item was 49 cents or less
The tokens were typically issued in aluminum, plastic or paper mucilage.
It reads COLORADO RETAIL TOKEN SALES TAX on each side with the number 2 at 3 and 9 o'clock. This example has seen use as it has some highlighted wear as shown to the embossed letters and the center plus or cross sign.
