The listing, RCA M4204 Opal MP3 Player - Please Read has ended.

This is a very gently used and aesthetically clean mp3 player. However, for some reason it has decided to get stuck on the "Initializing" screen. Try as I might, I can not fix it because I run off a Linux OS and RCA does not make firmware updates compatible with Linux. I will give you the link to the RCA home page and you just search for M4204 in the Model# search box in the top right hand corner. There is NO guarantee that this will help, however, they do offer plenty of free firmware updates, manuals and troubleshooting that maybe able to help you to repair it. If not, it can be used for parts at the very least. I am hoping there is someone who is tech savvy enough to fix it and get it up and running as it should have many more years of life in it!

Have you tried hitting the reset button ..most mp3 have a very small pin hole button?

i have same model there is a small reset on the back you must use a needle or small pin to push it...hope this helps

I too run a linux based OS and linux does have a program that will correct rca mp3 players in software center under ubuntu.

I have to take my computer somewhere that has a larger ban width so I can download the app. I live in BFE and we have a monthly cap. So anything large I have to do from a public WIFI spot. However, as soon as I get the chance I will!

I am sorry if I missed a questions or post you put on this auction. I honestly try to answer any and all questions and comments. I live out in BFE and have to rely on a very unreliable satellite internet service. Most days I have to drive 30 minutes into town just to utilize the Library's or McDonalds WIFI services. I will go back into the auction and try to answer your comment to the best of my ability. As far as it being trash, well, I suppose that is for you to decide. I do encourage responsible bidding.

I have looked for a reset button on the back of the player and there is not one. I was unable to find the Linux app that "NEWGAMER1US" was talking about. I have done all I can with it and have not been able to get it to move further than the initializing screen. I do know that RCA has driver updates that will fix the problem, however the only computers that run PC programs in my house are our desktops. Because of our internet situation I can not download any type of software without going to a remote location. I am hoping that someone who has more tech skills than I will be able to fix it and make it usable again. It is a common problem with this model and there are many ways to fix it. I am just restricted in my abilities to do so in part because of my limited bandwidth.
